I wish !
I suspect we would struggle to trade Cordero and Rocker for nothing. You are realisticlly looking at paying $7m for Rocker as Cordero would do jack.
I have a feeling that Branyan, Vizquel or maybe even Cabrera may be used as trade bait.

Unfortunately, Alomar was the most tradeable commodity. I think that the "clean-up" hole is over-rated. The Yanks haven't had a guy hit over 35 homers or something like that ever until they picked up Giambi, but even he isn't in the clean-up spot. Thome will be fine there as long as he doesn't overswing. I think Anderson will have a .350-375 OBP in the leadoff position next year because he always gets walks, even in slumps, so he just needs to work on his mechanics. 2B can be played by so many people...it is scary. Don't despair too much.
To complete your trade Alex...
Rocker and Cordero for cash.
Hart needs pitching...why didn't he want to trade for woodard? We could have sent Woodard, Rocker, and cordero for some career minor leaguers.

Right now, the holes appear to be 2B, cleanup and leadoff. I can't believe we gave away our best player and didn't fill any holes.
What scenarios are there to fill these gaps ? Catalonotto ? Is that realistic ?
Wouldn't it have been better to keep Alomar, trade Vizquel, play MacDonald at SS and sign Cedeno with what we saved ?
I would like to see Branyan given a full year in the OF. The Alomar trade makes that much harder but maybe Lawton could lead off and Branyan could play LF ?
Thoughts ?
Which lineup is better ?
Mine - Cedeno, Fryman, Alomar, Thome, Burks, Diaz, Branyan, MacDonald, Bradley
Or
Shapiro - Anderson, Vizquel, Lawton, Thome, Burks, Fryman, Diaz, Cabrera, Bradley
Thoughts ?
Come on, entertain me !

Sorry, I don't see Rocker going to the Rangers with the pickup of Everett.
Talk about an explosive clubhouse.
It's too bad that Shapiro couldn't include Rocker to the Mets. I'm sure that I will be showered with reasons as to why it didn't happen (i'll be glad to hear them).
That would have been the ultimate payback though, to actually have John Rocker in a Met uniform. hahahahahahaha.
If Rocker isn't moved, he'll be dropped. He's baggage as well. Someone give him cab fare for Hopkins so he can be claimed too. He could share the ride with Cordero.

Well, yes, I'd rather promote our own than go with Gutierrez...Shapiro is about to alienate Branyan, Cabrera, Macdonald..and other prospects if he signs Gutierrez.
I mean the guy is mediocre, but signing him to a 12 million dollar deal while paying our own prospects peanuts is NOT a good move....especially paying that much for a guy with limited range, no power, and no speed.
This is a nightmare.
I like Lawton better than Cedeno...but I don't like Lawton and Gutierrez over Robbie and Cedeno...which was workable.
This team could have beaten Seattle in the playoffs, the team with the most wins in the history of baseball...
The fact that Seattle had to pitch Moyer twice in the series doomed them against New York.
this team did not need to be disassembled...just fine tuned by getting a better leadoff hitter than Kenny Lofton.
Sigh.

Alex I disagree. The team does need to be dissasembled if this team is to contend at any point in the future....
Cabrera is not a 2b - he is an utility player...
In an attempt to get some offense from the middle infield spots McDonald and Vizquel as a combination just will not be it....
Oh and Lawton more than likely will bat leadoff and Guiterrez will do just fine in the middle infield somewhere.

While I don't mind the Robbie Trade because we got Lawton, I think I was spot on about Ricky.
